Preview: Cardiff City

25 August 2015

The Dons are back in Capital One Cup action tonight when they face Cardiff City at stadiummk.

Karl Robinson’s side booked their place in the second round with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Leyton Orient in which they scored two late goals to overturn a first-half opener from the visitors.

That Capital One Cup win was one of three the Dons have enjoyed already this season, having toppled both Rotherham United and Bolton Wanderers in the Sky Bet Championship.

The men from MK1 also earned a point away at Reading this past weekend to move their points total on to seven – one more than tonight’s opponents Cardiff.

The opposition
The Bluebirds have made an unbeaten start to the 2015/16 season, winning two and drawing the other three of their games.

One of those two victories was a 1-0 triumph at home to AFC Wimbledon, which secured their passage through the first round of the Capital One Cup.

Their most recent win, and arguably most impressive, came this past weekend – Russell Slade’s side beat Championship promotion contenders Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 thanks to goals from Kenwyne Jones and Sammy Ameobi.

Team news
Dons boss Robinson has confirmed recent signing Josh Murphy will start – the winger moved to stadiummk on loan from Norwich City last Friday but was an unused substitute at Reading.

The Liverpudlian manager also revealed he will make more changes as he looks to keep his squad fresh and provide minutes to those players who haven’t featured regularly in the league at the start of this season.

Joe Walsh (knee) and Ben Reeves (hamstring) are unavailable through injury.

Cardiff, meanwhile, will run the rule over striker Kenwyne Jones because of an ankle injury, with Bruno Maga and Federico Macheda waiting in the wings.

Midfielder Scott Malone is available for selection after recovering from a virus.
