Karl: A good start

10 August 2015

Karl Robinson believes his players showed their quality in the Club's Sky Bet Championship debut at Rotherham United.

The Dons made a dream start to the 2015/16 campaign, beating the Millers 4-1 at their AESSEAL New York Stadium – the Club’s biggest ever win on opening day.

“It’s a good start,” Robinson told MK Dons PlayerHD. “We’ve put in an accomplished performance as team and we showed plenty of quality in all aspects of our play.

“I was pleased with the way we came back after a very wobbly 15 minutes. We really rode our luck – they should have scored and made it 2-1 and then we’ve scored a deflection to make it 2-1 to us. From then on in, though, I thought the players were sensational.

“We had a game plan and the players really took it on board, so they deserve all the credit. From now on we’ve got belief in ourselves that we can play against some good, assured teams like Rotherham are.”

Saturday’s opener in South Yorkshire was, of course, the Dons’ first ever second tier fixture and Robinson says it was a ‘proud moment’ for him, both leading the side out and guiding them to victory.

“It was a very proud moment for me and my family, who were watching. To lead this Football Club into the Championship for the very first time alongside a great group of people does fill me with a tremendous sense of pride.

“There was close to 1,000 fans there which just shows how far we have come since 2010 when I took over - we’re in a completely different position now. It was just a wonderful day.”

Robinson's men are back in action on Tuesday evening when they host Leyon Orient in the first-round of the Capital One Cup - tickets are priced from £10 for adults, £8 for over-65s and £1 for under-18s.
