Player of the Year Baker wants promotion

30 April 2015

Carl Baker was overwhelmed with emotion after being named the Dons’ Player of the Year at Tuesday night’s awards ceremony.

The 32-year-old winger was chosen by the supporters as the team’s stand out player during a record-breaking 2014/15 campaign, capping off quite a whirlwind eight months for a player who was without a club in August.

“I’m absolutely delighted and I’d like to thank all the fans who voted for me, I really appreciate it,” Baker told MK Dons Player. “I really didn’t expect to win this award because there are so many talented players in the squad and to get more votes than them is surreal.

While Tuesday was an evening that will live long in the memory for Baker, his immediate attention is on trying to help the Dons better Preston North End’s result this weekend – a scenario which would see the men from MK1 earn promotion to the Sky Bet Championship for the first time.

“It’s a massive game and I can’t wait. The lads are all buzzing and looking forward to it too. Hopefully Preston will slip up but if they don’t then obviously we’ll go into the play-offs full of confidence – we believe we can beat anybody on our day.

“If we were to go up automatically then I wouldn’t be able to put my emotions into words - it’s something I’ve dreamt about all my life. I’ve played in the Championship before and it’s an unbelievable league to be involved in, so to be able to get back there at this stage of my career would be amazing. I pray every night that it happens but what will be, will be.”
