Carl Baker’s says he is relishing these final two games, after his impact from the bench on Tuesday helped the Dons keep within touching distance of second place.
“It would have been heartbreaking if we hadn’t have picked up the points and seen that Preston had won,” Baker told MK Dons Player after the victory.
“We just need to keep concentrating on ourselves and picking up the three points. We only need them to slip up once and if that does happen, we need to make sure we win so we can capitalise on that.
“It’s going to be exciting and we know it’s going to go all the way to the wire. We’ve worked hard all season so with two games to go, we just need to keep doing what we’re doing and hopefully we will get there.”
He continued: “I’ve been relegated from the Championship before and that was one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve been through, so to be involved in the other side of it is amazing.
“I’m waking up every morning with a smile on my face. Normally I’d be nervous before these types of games but as soon as I turn up at the stadium and see the players we’ve got, it calms my nerves as we’ve got so much quality – it’s a pleasure to be involved in.”
Baker was limited to a substitute appearance on Tuesday having just returned to action from a calf injury, but the 32-year-old was delighted to get back on the stadiummk pitch – as well as on the scoresheet.
“I was delighted to get back on the pitch and it was nice to come on and get involved with a couple of goals, an assist and obviously help earn the three points.
“It’s been a difficult three weeks for me with my injury and I’ve just to got thank the physios – they’ve had me in every day and it’s testament to them for getting me back on the pitch so soon.”
Baker and the Dons travel to Rochdale this Saturday for a crucial away fixture and their final road trip of the regular season - tickets are priced from £20 for adults, £14 for over-65s and under-21s and £5 for under-16s.
