Summerfield makes Bedford bow

15 September 2014

Will Summerfield made his debut for Bedford Town on Saturday but couldn’t prevent them from being knocked out of the Red Insure Cup on penalties.

The young midfielder joined the Eagles on a one-month’s loan deal on Thursday and made his first appearance for the Southern League Division One Central side as a 75th minute substitute in their tie against Leighton Town.

With the scores tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes, the contest went straight to a penalty shoot-out and, unfortunately for Summerfield and Bedford, it was the visitors who held their nerve to come out on top 4-2.

Next up for the Craig Adams’ side is a trip to Aylesbury United this weekend.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Charlie Burns played another 90 minutes for Cambridge City in their FA Cup with Budweiser first round qualifying clash with Needham Market.

The 19-year-old, in his third appearance for the Lilywhites, did well to keep the visitors at bay early on but was unable to stop the Marketmen from running away with a 4-2 come-from-behind victory.

Burns and Cambridge will now look to pick themselves ahead of an away clash with Frome Town this Saturday in the Southern League Premier Division.
