Report: First-round defeat for Dons

24 September 2014

A youthful Dons side fell at the first stage of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup after they were beaten 8-0 by Chalfont St Peter on Wednesday evening.

Two goals in quick succession from striker Daniel Ailey, both expertly taken, gave the hosts a 2-0 lead within nine minutes at Mill Meadow. Danilson Vicente increased the advantage with another fine finish just eight minutes later.

The Dons fought back with Giorgio Rasulo and Kyran Wiltshire forcing the hosts’ keeper into smart saves from distance as the midway point of the first half approached.

Rasulo came within inches of pulling a goal back on 35 minutes but his clever free-kick came back off the post while, at the other end, Alex Paine headed a dangerous cross against the crossbar.

However, Paine made no mistake a minute before the break when he controlled keeper Andrew McCorkell’s weak clearance and chipped the ball into an empty net from 30 yards.

Vicente then grabbed his second of the night on the stroke of half-time as his speculative effort deflected over McCorkell to make it 5-0.

The men from MK1 were the first to register a shot on target in the second period through Wiltshire, who stung the palms of the Saints’ keeper from the edge of the box.

But it was the hosts who went further in front on the hour mark when Gareth Paxton poked home from close range.

Luke Tingey and Kabongo Tshimanga both headed off target either side of the home side’s seventh goal, which came courtesy of second-half substitute Glenn Yala with 20 minutes remaining.

Fellow substitute Aaron Silcott wrapped up the success in the final five minutes.

Dons: McCorkell, Hunt, Okito (c), Weston, Tingey, Wiltshire, Vaughan, Hadden, Tilney (Owusu 70), Rasulo, Tshimanga.

Unused subs: Furlong, Palmiero.
