Report: Enfield Town 1-2 Ladies

9 September 2014

MK Dons Ladies ground out their first three points of the season on Sunday with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Enfield Town.

Matt French’s side had taken just one point from their opening two games heading into the trip to London but were able to register their first win of the year courtesy of goals from Chloe Smith and Lauren Goodier.

The Dons took control of the game early on and Heather McDonnell hit the post with only three minutes on the clock, after beating the Enfield defence.

Goodier then saw an effort clip the post soon after, as the Dons continued to put their hosts under pressure early on.

However, despite their dominance, it was Enfield who took the lead midway through the first half following a clinical counter attack which allowed the home striker to slot past Dons ‘keeper Tor Caldwell.

Caldwell, on her Dons debut, then saved well from an Enfield header just before half-time as the hosts went into the break 1-0 up.

After the restart, the Dons raised their tempo and began to look dominant with the ball.

Leah Cudone was brought on by boss French in the second half in an effort to get back into the game and within minutes of her arrival she found herself through on goal – her shot, though, went just wide.

Dons continued to push for an equaliser throughout the second half and 15 minutes from the end they were rewarded for their pressure, when Leanne Doyle picked out Chloe Smith and she showed great composure to take on the Enfield keeper and slot home.

The leveller gave the Dons added belief heading into the closing stages and with just minutes remaining they grabbed a winner courtesy of Smith, who met Goodier’s cross to fire home and secure a first three points for the Dons Ladies in 2014/15.
