Report: Bedford 0-6 Ladies

15 September 2014

A Heather McDonnell hat trick helped MK Dons Ladies to put 6 past Bedford away from home in their biggest win of the season so far to add another three points to their tally.

The Ladies started brightly and were on the front foot from the kick off, dominating play and creating a number of early chances.

Lauren Goodier and McDonnell were proving too much to deal with for the Bedford defence with both of them creating a number of chances however MK Dons couldn’t find the back of the net.

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when McDonnell’s corner was met perfectly by Hannah Barrett and although her effort was denied by a fine save from the Bedford keeper, the ball fell straight to Leah Cudone who tapped it in to give the Dons the lead.

Dons continued their pressure and doubled their lead soon after through Chloe Smith, who received the ball on the edge of the box, turned away from her marker and smashed a shot into the net off the underside of the bar.

MK Dons got their third of the afternoon moments after the restart when Barrett received the ball after some slick passing and played in Smith, who coolly finished her second goal.

The Dons then made it four when their high pressing game forced Bedford into a mistake, which McDonnell capitalised on and finished to grab the first of her three goals.

Although 4-0 down, Bedford continued to work hard and create chances, but the Dons defence contained the attacks that came their way well.

In the 75th minute, added a fifth goal after some eye-catching football from the Ladies was capped off by a fine McDonnell finish.

McDonnell then completed her hat-trick, as he game drew to close, with a first time finish from Goodier’s cross.

McDonnell’s goal completed a stunning rout from the Dons and also rounded off a fantastic performance.
