Dean: We deserved something

30 September 2014

Dean Bowditch opened his account for the season against Bristol City on Saturday, but the winger was disappointed not to come away with a result.

After the hosts had taken a two-goal first-half lead at Ashton Gate, Bowditch slotted home from inside the penalty area to reduce deficit, before striker Benik Afobe levelled things up with his 10th goal of the season.

In the end, though, the Dons were edged out 3-2 by the league leaders, a result which Bowditch felt didn’t reflect the true story of the game.

“We deserved something out of that game,” he told MK Dons Player. “We were poor in the first 15 minutes but for the rest of the game I thought we were fantastic and I don’t think anybody could argue with that.

“We did so well to get back into it and deserved to go on and win it, I feel, so it’s disappointing that we’ve walked away with nothing.”

Bowditch’s 51st minute strike was his first since the 3-2 victory over Shrewsbury Town back in January, and the 28-year-old is now focused on scoring more.

“I’ve been telling myself that if I keep getting chances, I will score eventually. I found myself in the middle of the penalty area and as long as I keep doing that I’m going to score my fair share of goals.

“I’m really pleased to get on the scoresheet and I’m hopefully I can keep scoring more.”

Saturday’s defeat saw the Dons slip down to fourth in Sky Bet League 1 but Bowditch is confident that if the team continues performing the way they are, they will be there or thereabouts all season.

He added: “Throughout the season we are going to go to places like this and not get the result we are after but if we keep playing like this, we’ll be fine. The lads are coming away disappointed but also excited because we still played really well.

“Yeovil on Saturday is going to be hard, we’re going to have to graft and we need to make sure we keep playing the football we are in order to get the result.”
