Charlie plays in City draw

11 September 2014

Charlie Burns helped loan club Cambridge City to a 2-2 draw with Corby Town on Wednesday night.

The young goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes in the exciting Southern League Premier Division clash, which saw all four goals scored in the first half. Defender Harry Hickford, also on loan at Bridge Road, was unavailable due to injury.

Cambridge took the lead inside the first 60 seconds through Paul Walker but Corby equalised five minutes later from a Paul Malone header.

The visitors then edged in front when Ben Milnes fired past Burns from close-range but Josh Dawkin’s goal on 38 minutes ensured the sides went into the break level.

During the second half, both teams had chances to secure all three points, with Burns forced to palm away a header from a free-kick to deny the visitors.

City also went close late-on but weren’t able to find a breakthrough and therefore settled for a point which moves them to fifth in the table.

Next up for the Lilywhites is their FA Cup with Budweiser first round qualifying clash with Needham on Saturday.
