Afobe after more goals

16 September 2014

Benik Afobe says he’s full of confidence heading into tonight’s clash with Bradford City, after netting his fourth goal in three games on the weekend.

The Arsenal loanee pounced on a parried Mark Randall effort to slot home the opening goal in the Dons’ 5-3 triumph over Barnsley on Saturday and take his tally for the season up to six.

“As a striker you live on confidence and the manager, the staff, the fans and especially my teammates have given it to me,” Afobe told MK Dons Player after the game.

“Before the game the gaffer spoke to me and told me to follow up everything when we shoot from the range. I still had to cushion it well and he came rushing out pretty quickly, I was just pleased to see it hit the back of the net.

“It’s not just me, though, Will Grigg’s come off the bench and scored again and he’s now got five. We’ve got 11 goals between us already. Tom Hitchcock is a fantastic finisher as well and he’ll get his chance at some stage this season and will score goals.

“Another pleasing thing for us is that we had five different goal scorers, with Samir and Reevesy both opening their accounts and Dele scoring too. It shows that we haven’t just got goals up front but we’ve got them all over the team and hopefully we can continue that.

He continued: “We have so much creativity in the team, from the players starting to ones not even in the squad. Whoever’s playing can do the job and I think we’re showing that so far. Everyone’s happy and we just want to continue scoring goals and winning games.”

Afobe and his Dons team-mates will be hoping to maintain their good form when they host Bradford at stadiummk this evening and the 21-year-old insists the players are eager to continue rewarding the home faithful.

He added: “Our home fans have been fantastic. We love playing at home, it’s a fantastic stadium and the large pitch suits the way we want to play. We just want to continue making the fans and ourselves happy by winning games.”
