Karl: We deserved to be beat

8 October 2014

Karl Robinson says Tuesday’s defeat to AFC Wimbledon in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy was a hard one to take.

The Dons bowed out of the competition courtesy of Adebayo Akinfenwa’s late winner, which came after Daniel Powell and Benik Afobe’s goals were cancelled out by Adebayo Azeez and Sean Rigg.

“Our fans we great, they stayed right until the end to applaud their team and I want to apologise to them,” Robinson told MK Dons Player after game. “I’m gutted because I don’t like losing them games but it had to come sometime.

“We deserved to be beaten. We were poor, we were lethargic and we seemed to lack an edge. We lost all the battles and looked like a team that thought we were better than what we were and we don’t accept that.

“Their day off (on Wednesday) has been cancelled. It goes against their recovery but it’s something that’s well and truly needed this time.

“We will reflect on this and make sure it doesn’t happen again but we’ll put it right. We’re disappointed to be out of the JPT but one game doesn’t make a season. There are still 36 more games to play in another competition and that’s what we’ll turn our thoughts to.”
