Hodson hopeful ahead of qualifier

14 November 2014

Lee Hodson is confident Northern Ireland can maintain their excellent start to the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers by beating Romania this evening.

The right-back has yet to feature for the Green and White Army this campaign due to an ankle ligament injury but hopes the side, which includes his Dons team-mates Ben Reeves and Will Grigg, can continue their winning run tonight and strengthen their position at the top of Group F.

“It’s been a good campaign so far and the lads are full of confidence by the sounds of it, which they should be after three wins,” Hodson told mkdons.com.

“I’ve spoken to Reevesy a couple of times already and the lads are looking forward to the game. Hopefully we can get another three points but even a point, away from, will stand us in good stead.”

Tonight’s clash with Romania has come just a little too soon for Hodson who would have, more than likely, be involved if he’d been able to return to match action for the Dons before the squad was announced.

The 23-year-old, though, is now back in full training at stadiummk and therefore hopes to be involved with his national team when the next fixtures take place in the New Year.

“Michael (O’Neill) did call me to see how I was but I think this game came just a little bit too soon.

“I am gutted not to be involved in this game but who wouldn’t be, at this moment in time, because we’re doing well and fighting to get to the Euro finals.

“Hopefully if I can get back playing and I can look after myself, I’ll be able to get back into the squad in time for the next game.”

Watch and see if Reeves and Grigg can help Northern Ireland topple Romania this evening, live on Sky Sports 2. Coverage starts at 7.30pm.
