MK Dons can secure a fourth straight top-10 finish if they beat Leyton Orient in their final game of the season on Saturday.
Karl Robinson’s side currently occupy ninth place in the Sky Bet League 1 and win over the O’s this weekend would ensure that they cannot be caught by Port Vale, Walsall or Bristol City. If the Dons were to draw, they would need all three of the teams, chasing, to fail to win.
Leyton Orient, meanwhile, still have a chance of finishing third but would need to maximum points away from stadiummk and hope that Preston North End either draw or lose away at Crewe Alexandra.
Karl Robinson – speaking to MK Dons Player
“We want to finish in the top 10 and that’s the challenge that has been set by me to the players and a challenge the players have set themselves as well.
“Leyton Orient have got a massive challenge ahead of them after Saturday but they won’t come here and lie down, they’ll come here and want to get a win as well.
“We’re going into the game on Saturday with a very narrow-minded attitude and a very confident, buoyant look on the game.”
Russell Slade, Leyton Orient manager – speaking to the O's official website
“It’s important our preparation (for the play-offs) is bang-on and we’ve been working very hard establishing a foundation for that. We’re getting ourselves prepared and we’re trying to go there with the strongest and fittest squad available.
“MK will want to finish as high as they possible can and when watching footage of their previous games they’ve showed a fantastic attitude. The way they went about their business at Rotherham was commendable and they were unlucky not to win the game.
“It’s (MK Dons’) last game of the season as well and they will want to put on a performance for their fans. There is a bit to play for, it is a good fixture for us but it’s a tough one as well.
Defender Antony Kay will undergo a late fitness to determine whether he can return from a thigh injury before the end of the season.
Daniel Powell (hamstring) is another who could return to the side which will include second-year scholars Harry Hickford and Will Summerfield, both of whom were called up by Robinson this week.
Orient are expected to have both Mathieu Baudry (knee) and Elliot Omozusi (hip) available after they recovered from their respective injuries.
Slade is also expected to make unenforced changes to his side with one eye on Leyton Orient’s play-off semi final next week.
