Karl Robinson’s side hadn’t won on the road since August heading into the clash at Molineux Stadium but goals from Patrick Bamford and Ben Reeves lifted them from their recent slump and saw them stun the eventual Sky Bet League 1 winners on their own patch.
The Dons, who were in search of their first League win in over a month, started brightly with both Bamford and loanee Dale Jennings calling Wolves stopper Carl Ikeme into action inside the opening five minutes.
David Martin was then forced into a save of his on 10 minutes when Bakary Sako ghosted into space inside the penalty area before the Dons ‘keeper foiled Kevin Doyle after the striker had pounced on a mistake by Jordan Spence.
Robinson’s men had been patiently soaking up the hosts’ pressure and hitting them on the counter attack in the 31st minute they opened the scoring through Bamford, who raced onto Samir Carruthers’ through-ball and calmly finished under Ikeme to net his 14th goal of the season.
The Dons managed to hold onto their lead for the remainder of the second half before, just five minutes after the re-start, they doubled their advantage courtesy of a wonder goal from midfielder Ben Reeves.
The former Southampton man was afforded time and space on the ball and from 20-yards he fired a superb cracker of a strike beyond the outstretched arm of Ikeme and into the top corner.
The men from MK1 could have added a third moments later when Bamford twisted his way into space but the Chelsea youngster lacked the firepower needed to truly test Ikeme.
Despite several late efforts from the hosts, one of which found the back of the net but was ruled out for the offside, the Dons held on to not only collect a vital three points but secure a much-needed clean-sheet.
