mkdons.com will be taking a look back at some of the memorable matches from the 2013/14 season, starting with the thrilling Capital One Cup clash with Sunderland.
Karl Robinson’s led the Premier League outfit 2-0 courtesy of stunning strikes from Patrick Bamford and Izale McLeod but four goals in 12 minutes from the Black Cats prevented them from causing an almighty Cup upset at Stadium of Light.
The Dons took the lead after just seven minutes when Bamford received an inch-perfect pass from Dele Alli and fired a right-footed shot pas Vito Mannone.
McLeod then doubled the visitors’ advantage with a delightful chip from the edge of the area after latching onto Samir Carruthers’ defence-splitting through ball just five minutes into the second half.
However, despite a spirited attempt to keep their top division opponents at bay, the Dons defence was finally breached in the 78th minute when Jozy Altidore fired into the bottom corner before Connor Wickham found space in the Dons box to fire in an equaliser soon after.
Wickham then completed the dramatic turnaround with his second goal in as many minutes with former England international Adam Johnson finishing off the scoring with a terrific solo goal in stoppage time.
