Ladies are Dons of double-header!

14 May 2014

MK Dons Ladies came out on top in a gruelling double-header with Norwich City at stadiummk, drawing the first match 2-2 before winning the second 4-1.

In the first of the two matches, the Dons started off slowly and conceded the first goal within 58 seconds. Hannah Clancy failed to clear a cross which allowed the Norwich striker to head past goalkeeper Emma Kirby.
City’s early goal was the wake-up call the Dons needed and they responded just five minutes later when a fantastic diagonal ball from Charly Wright found Leah Cudone and she poked the ball in to make it 1-1.

The score remained all-square until half-time but soon after the re-start, Norwich restored their lead.

Dons, though, continued to press their opponents and they were rewarded with an equaliser in the 85th minute courtesy of Emily Mann, who was in the right place at the right time to prod home after Eden Washington had done excellently to block a clearance from the Norwich keeper.

After a short break, the two sides returned to the field for game two and, just like in the first match, Norwich were the team who struck first when the home side failed to deal with a long ball forward.

Matt French’s side, though, responded soon after through Leah Cudone who, when played through on goal, finished into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

City then had a great chance to restore their lead from a free-kick only for Kirby to deny them with a superb diving save to tip the ball over the bar, and that stop proved all the more important in the second half when the Dons gained the advantage.

After some great football in the Norwich half, the ball found its way to Lil Stanton and she executed an inch-perfect lob over the City keeper from 30 yards out to make it 2-1.

Not content to rest on their slender advantage, the Dons went in search of a third goal which they found courtesy of Charly Wright, who finished coolly after beating two Norwich defenders in the box.

Chloe Smith later tapped home after Cudone hit the post to secure the victory for the Dons and add three points to the one they collected earlier in the day.

The two results sees the Dons Ladies finish their 2013/14 season in 5th place in the South East Combination League table.
