Luke Chadwick helped his boyhood club Cambridge United win promotion back to the Football League on Sunday.
The U’s returned to Sky Bet League 2 for the first time since 2006 after they beat Gateshead 2-1 at Wembley Stadium in the Skrill Conference Premier Play-Off final yesterday afternoon.
Over 13,000 watched on as goals from Liam Hughes and Ryan Donaldson secured the memorable victory for Richard Money’s side, who had to play the final ten minutes with ten men.
Cambridge fan Chadwick entered the contest as a 65th minute substitute to make his 10th appearance for the U’s and help see them over the finish line.
The 33-year-old had told BBC Sport earlier in the week: “To see the club promoted, be any part of it, would be a dream come true.
