Ref Watch: Swindon Town

6 March 2014

Jeremy Simpson has been appointed match referee for MK Dons’ Sky Bet League 1 clash with Swindon Town on Saturday.

Simpson joined the list of Football League officials in August 2012 after spending three seasons in the Conference. Simpson refereed the Conference Play-Off Final between Luton Town and York City at the end of his final season in English football’s top non-league division.

The Lancashire-based official has taken charge of the Dons on just two occasions with the most recent of those coming earlier this season when Robinson’s men hosted Coventry City at stadiummk.

That afternoon, Simpson booked four players and awarded the Dons a penalty following a push on Ben Reeves by Sky Blues’ defender Dan Seaborne.

Simpson has overseen 25 games this season and shown 72 yellow cards. Only twice this season has Simpson failed to produce a card - in QPR’s Capital One Cup win over Exeter City in August and in Sheffield United’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie with Scunthorpe United two months ago. Simpson has produced his red card just five times.

Simpson’s last appointment saw him umpire Leicester City’s 3-0 triumph over Charlton Athletic and that afternoon he booked only three players.

The full list of officials is as follows:
Referee: Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire)
Assistant Referees: Darren Blunden (Kent) and Amy Fearn (Leicestershire)
Fourth Official: Stephen Bratt (West Midlands)
