Karl Robinson heaped praise on hat-trick hero Dele Alli and his team after MK Dons’ 3-1 win over Notts County.
Robinson’s side closed the gap on the play-off places to just three points on Tuesday evening courtesy of a composed treble from teenager Dele Alli, who struck once in the first half and twice in the second to secure the valuable victory at Meadow Lane.
It was also the first time since December 2011 the Dons had recorded back-to-back away victories and therefore it came as little surprise to hear a jubilant Robinson pay tribute to his players after the game, in particular his young starlet Alli.
Speaking to MK Dons Player, the 33-year-old said: “I’m really happy. We rode our luck in periods but we’ve come here and won 3-1 and I’m pleased. We got three points and it gives us confidence.
“To come away to Swindon and Notts County back-to-back and win both is pleasing. It could be the first time we’ve registered back-to-back away wins in a long while too.
“It’s not hard to work out who will steal the headlines - the boy is special. He is a unique individual on and off the pitch and he’s really come out of his shell this year. He’s matured and I’m enjoying working with him.
“It wasn’t just him, though. I thought Alan Smith and Stephen (Gleeson) alongside him were sensational, I thought the back four were very good tonight and I thought the front three made it difficult for their defenders.
“I also want to say thank you to the fans because we know it’s been a massive outlay to come out to Oldham, Swindon and Notts County these last few weeks.”
The win, the team’s 15th of the season, sets the stage perfectly for this weekend’s, now, vital clash with Peterborough United, who could be surpassed by the Dons if Robinson’s men were to win by a two-goal margin.
He added: “We’ll enjoy this win tonight but we’ll back in on Wednesday to prepare for an interesting game on Saturday afternoon.
