Goalkeeper Ian McLoughlin helped Newport County earn a deserved point at home to Exeter City on Sunday afternoon.
The 22-year-old, who made his debut for the Exiles last Tuesday evening, provided a number of important saves as Justin Edinburgh’s men came from behind to draw and extend the gap between them and the relegation places to eight points.
McLoughlin, on his first home appearance, prevented Liam Sercombe from taking the lead on 40 minutes before he was unfortunately beaten by Tom Nichols’ in-swinging cross which took a huge deflection off County defender Harry Worley.
The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was then forced to make another fine save in order to deny Matt Oakley just minutes after County had equalised through Lee Minshul.
Next up for McLoughlin and his team-mates is a home clash with Dagenham & Redbridge who sit just one place and one point above the Exiles in the Sky Bet League 2 table.
