Chadwick makes U's debut

19 March 2014

Luke Chadwick made his debut for his boyhood club Cambridge United on Tuesday and helped the U’s to a 2-1 win over Welling United.

Chadwick was named in Richard Money’s starting XI just hours after finalising a loan switch to Abbey Stadium and the midfielder impressed with a number of fine touches throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch.

United took the lead from the penalty spot in the 64th minute before Welling equalised through a close-range Tobi Sho-Silva header.

The U’s, though, secured the three points just three minutes later courtesy of a fine finish from striker Delano Sam-Yorke.

The result keeps the Cambridgeshire outfit within 11 points of first-paced Luton Town and also extends the gap between them and the bottom of the Skrill Premier play-offs to nine points.

Next up for United is their FA Carlsberg Trophy Final against Gosport Borough at Wembley Stadium this Sunday. Chadwick, however, will not feature as he is ineligible.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Ian McLoughlin will be hoping for his first win in Newport County colours when the Exiles host Dagenham & Redbridge this evening.

County have lost one and drawn one since McLoughlin took over the duties in goal and tonight face a Daggers side who sit just one place above them in the Sky Bet League 2 table.

The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international joined the Welsh Club on a one-month emergency loan last week.
