MK Dons Ladies followed-up last week’s Semi-Final victory with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Cambridge Women on Sunday.

Matt French’s side travelled to Cambridge yesterday afternoon looking to close the gap on the top-two and they almost got off to the perfect start when Charly Wright found herself in a great position inside the hosts’ penalty area but her shot could only find the side netting.

The Dons, though, did break the deadlock soon after courtesy of Emily Mann (pictured), who latched onto a fantastic long ball forward from Claire Hollingsworth and calmly lobbed the goalkeeper from the edge of the area.

Mann’s goal was nothing less than the Dons deserved although they did have to survive a late rally from the hosts at the end of the first-half to take their one-goal advantage into the break.

The start of the second period came and went without any meaningful efforts on goal as the Dons looked to see-out their win.

Mann had a chance to double her tally for the afternoon mid-way through the second half but was thwarted by the Cambridge defense before Claire Farron produced a superb diving save to deny the hosts from a free-kick.

The Ladies were, in the end, able to hold on to the victory and move within five points of second-place and eight off the top, following the 1-1 draw between QPR and C&K Basildon.
