Liverpool win FA Girls' Youth Cup

1 June 2014

Liverpool Under-17s won the FA Girls’ Youth Cup on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Merseyside rivals Everton at stadiummk.

England youth international Kess Elmore struck the only goal of the tight contest in the 56th minute when she managed to delicately lob Blues ‘keeper Sandy MacIver from inside the area.

Liverpool had enjoyed more of the possession than their opponents and they went closest to opening the scoring inside the first 30 minutes with both Natasha Rothery and Jess Davenport missing one-on-one chances.

Everton’s Sasha Rowe then hit the post for her side with an ambitious long-range effort as both teams entered the half-time interval goalless.

At the start of the second half, Liverpool’s Blue Pendlebury forced Sandy MacIver into a smart save before Elmore broke the deadlock with her dinked finish.

The Toffees did have several chances to take the game to extra-time late on, most notably through Zoe Tynan whose last minute shot looped agonisingly over the crossbar, but they couldn’t find a way allowing the red half of the city to celebrate.
