Grigg: Dons a perfect fit

21 July 2014

Will Grigg admits he turned down other opportunities to spend the season on loan with MK Dons and hopes to continue his goal-scoring form during his time at stadiummk.

The 23-year-old Northern Ireland international joined the Dons on a temporary deal from Brentford on Friday, becoming Karl Robinson’s sixth signing of the summer and the second new addition to the attacking corps at MK1.

And in his first interview MK Dons Player the former Birmingham City trainee, who played 60 minutes in the pre-season friendly with Aylesbury FC on Saturday afternoon, spoke of his excitement at his move to stadiummk – a decision he described as a no-brainer.

Grigg said: “When I was away before pre-season I heard there was a bit of interest and when it came about it was something I was really keen to do. As soon as the ball got rolling both parties were confident they could make it work and it’s just nice to be here now.

“There we a few choices but the style of football here suits me, it’s a similar formation to Brentford and Walsall so it’s a good fit for me personally. I know the Gaffer’s wanted me for quite a while so it was really a no brainer. There was other clubs but this is the perfect fit.

“They have a great stadium and as soon as you come out onto the pitch it takes you back a little bit. I’ve had some good memories here and probably scored two of my best goals here so hopefully I can add to that and make it a more regular occurrence.”

Grigg, who scored 20 goals in 44 appearances for Walsall in 2012/13 before earning a move to Brentford the following season, has been a target of Dons boss Robinson for a while now, with the Liverpudlian admitting having an interest in the forward for over 12 months.

And Grigg believes the confidence shown by his new manager will only benefit him this season. He added: “If somebody peruses you for such a long time then it is a positive thing,” Grigg added. “Coming in straight away, it gives me that confidence to push on and try to build on what I did last year and the year before that.

“That season for Walsall was great but looking back I could have added even more. It was a good season for me and I’ll be looking to try and get that form back. With the amount of chances that will be created with this great squad then I’m sure I’ll be racking up the goals.”
