Ref Watch: Wigan Athletic

2 January 2014

The experienced Roger East will take charge of MK Dons’ FA Cup with Budweiser Third Round tie against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

East began refereeing in the Football League in 2007 before being promoted to the Select Group for the 2012/13 season. East earned a permanent place in the list at the beginning of this campaign.

During his seven seasons as a referee, the 49-year-old has overseen 11 games involving MK Dons, the first of which came back in 2007 when a then-Paul Ince led side drew 3-3 with Macclesfield Town. In those 11 games, East has shown 48 yellow cards and sent off two players, Angelo Balanta and Sean O’Hanlon.

In games involving the men from MK1, East has only failed to show a Dons player a card on one occasion.

This season, the Wiltshire FA official has taken charge of 14 games with three of those coming in the Premier League. East has booked 43 players but has yet to brandish a red card.

East’s last appointment was back in December, when he marshalled the 1-1 draw between Aston Villa and Swansea City at Villa Park. East booked five players that afternoon.

The full list of officials for Saturday is as follows:
Referee: Roger East (Wiltshire)
Assistant Referees: Matthew Wilkes (West Midlands) and Glen Hart (County Durham)
Fourth Official: Anthony Backhouse (Cumbria)
