Martin: Full of praise for duo

14 February 2014

Goalkeeper David Martin has hailed the impact of Jordan Spence and Izale McLeod and hopes the duo can help turn the side’s form around.

last month while striker McLeod, the Club’s record goalscorer, netted twice last weekend for the first time, in the League, since September.mkstadiumMK Dons have conceded just a single goal since Spence returned to

And Martin was keen to praise the duo and urge them to continue their impact tomorrow afternoon. Speaking to MK Dons Player, Spence said: “Jordan’s come in and slotted right back in. We were unlucky to concede so late on against Tranmere and then we kept a clean-sheet at Walsall.

“I also think Izale coming in at the weekend made a massive difference because it meant we had a threat going the other way. Izale's record speaks for itself and hopefully he can do the same again this weekend."

Because of the weather and the side’s run in The FA Cup with Budweiser, Saturday will be the first time the Dons will face Oldham Athletic this season and, in a unique turn of events, this also means the two sides will play each other twice within the space of two weeks.

Martin, though, is confident that the team are fully prepared for both games, even though he knows the Latics will be tough opposition. He added:  “We’ve been in pretty much every day, working hard. The intensity has been higher and I think Saturday showed how well we can actually play.

“I don’t think there have been many times where I’ve had to play a club twice in quick succession but hopefully we can get three points here on Saturday and then again in a couple of weeks time up there.

“They are normally a good, tough team to play against, especially up there. It will be a difficult afternoon but hopefully we can get the three points.”
