United victory gets fans' vote

31 December 2014

The Dons’ incredible 4-0 triumph over Manchester United in August has been voted as the best game of 2014.

Fans have been choosing their favourite matches from calendar year on social media, with the Dons’ Capital One Cup giant-killing the unanimous winner.

See the top five favourite games below:

1 - MK Dons 4-0 Manchester United, August
Unsurprisingly, the game which received the most amount of votes was the Dons’ 4-0 victory over Manchester United. In front of a 26,969 crowd at stadiummk, Karl Robinson’s men saw off the 20-time English champions in one of the biggest League Cup shocks in recent memory.

2 – MK Dons 7-0 Oldham Athletic, December
The second most popular game amongst supporters was one which saw the Dons break the record for their biggest-ever win. Just five days before Christmas, the men from MK1 demolished Oldham Athletic 7-0, with six different players getting on the scoresheet including striker Will Grigg, who netted a brace.

3 – Wigan Athletic 3-3 MK Dons, January In third place, and the fans’ favourite game from the second half of the 2013/14 season, was the six-goal thriller away at Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup. Despite being down 2-0 in the closing stages of the first-half, Robinson’s side fought back and eventually earned a replay thanks to Patrick Bamford’s last goal in a Dons shirt.

4 – MK Dons 6-1 Crewe Alexandra, September

Another game which featured seven goals in 2014, the fourth on the list is the thrilling 6-1 victory at home to Crewe Alexandra – one in which 18-year-old Dele Alli starred. The teenage sensation netted his second professional hat-trick, his first at stadiummk, to help the Dons to a memorable win.

5 – Stevenage 2-3 MK Dons, March
While the Dons have enjoyed some come-from-behind wins in the latter half of 2014, they also pulled a few off earlier in the year and the 3-2 victory over Stevenage is arguably the pick of the bunch. Trailing their Hertfordshire opponents by two goals with just nine minutes remaining, Robinson’s army battled back to come out on top thanks to goals from Jordan Spence, Ben Reeves and Dean Lewington.
