Karl: Proud of the players

3 December 2014

Karl Robinson says he's proud of his side after their 1-0 victory over Sheffield United on Tuesday evening.

Dele Alli’s 87th minute finish at Bramall Lane secured the Dons’ third win in 10 days and saw them move to within two points of first place in Sky Bet League 1, still with a game in hand.

The result also saw the men from MK1 extend their unbeaten run in the league to nine games.

“I’m proud of the group,” Robinson told MK Dons Player. “I don’t think we deserved to win, if I’m being honest, but sometimes you have to roll your sleeves up like that. I know a lot of people have criticised us in the past for not being able to dig results out like this.

“Sometimes when we play against good teams away from home we aren’t going to be as flamboyant or fluent as we were on Saturday. You know when you go to Bramall Lane you have to fight like nobody’s business to get anything from the game and we did that.

“I’ll remember this one for a long time, for different reasons to Saturday. This and Chesterfield have been remarkable results for us and they are six points we would have lost last season.”

As well as the victory, the Dons also kept their 11th clean sheet of the season on Tuesday night, which is just one less than their total in the entire 2013/14 campaign.

He said: “(In the last two games) we’ve taken six points and scored seven goals, without conceding one. In the last four games we’ve conceded only to an own goal and a deflection - the players deserve tremendous credit.”

Robinson brought along almost his entire first-team squad for the trip to Sheffield, including the injured trio Dean Lewington, Samir Carruthers and Mark Randall, and the Dons boss says he was pleased with the togetherness his group showed at the final whistle.

“Every single player was here apart from Giorgio, who is back with the youth team preparing for the FA Youth Cup next week,” he added. “We brought everybody because I wanted that togetherness and it was great seeing every single one of my players celebrating on the touchline at the end of the game.”

The Dons take on Chesterfield in the second round of The FA Cup at stadiummk this Saturday - tickets are priced at £12 for adults and £1 for under-18s, while season ticket holders are entitled to a £2 discount on adult and senior tickets.
