Dele Alli says he and the players had a feeling they would come out on top against Oldham Athletic following a good week’s worth of training - but not win 7-0!
“It was another good performance from the team,” Alli told MK Dons Player. “We’d been working really hard week in preparation for the game and we knew this was coming really, with the way everybody had been training and putting it in off the pitch.
“Oldham are a really good team and we knew we’d have to play as well as we did to get the win. We were very clinical and took each chance and that’s what we needed to do.”
For the seventh time this season, the men from MK1 found the net on more than three occasions and Alli says that is a result of the side being more positive in their play compared to previous years.
“We’re going forward a lot more this year whereas before maybe we got caught playing a bit too much. This year we’re being really positive in the way we are playing and its showing. We’re getting good results and, as we showed, we’ve got players all over the pitch that can score goals.”
Alli is one of those players who has been featuring on the scoresheet on a regular basis and with his stunning solo goal against the Latics he took his goal total into double figures for the season as he closes in on his pre-season target of 15.
“I love scoring, it’s one of the best feelings in the game. I would have been happy with just getting the three points but getting a goal makes it that little bit better.
“I set myself a target of 15 for the season and I’ve got 10 already so I’ve scored more than I expected to at this stage. I’m just going to keep going, keep trying to play well and if the goals come, they come. If I can get a goal, that will be nice but as long as we get the three points I’ll be happy as that’s all that matters.”
