Karl Robinson admits he’s counting down the hours until his side’s Sky Bet League 1 opener against Gillingham.
MK Dons host the Gills at stadiummk on Saturday afternoon as they look to get their 2014/15 campaign off to a winning start. Kick-off is at 3pm.
“We’re looking forward to it,” Robinson told MK Dons Player. “I said at the fans evening the other night, whether you’re a fan, a coach, a board member or a player, this is the time of year where we all get just as excited as each other.
“There are obviously nerves from us as staff and players but excitement too and a willingness to want to do our best. I don’t think we’ve got over-excited at any stage this summer and I think we’ve been very calm in the way we’ve conducted ourselves.
“We’re ready. Everybody is at the right level and there’s buoyancy about the group. There’s a great deal of youth but some tremendous experience dotted around too. The two big words for us this year are together and ready and we’re definitely in those positions.”
Saturday’s match will provide Robinson with a first chance to see his new-look side in competitive action, having added no less than six new additions to his squad this summer.
He added: “There has been an edge to us all week and a professionalism too and we need to continue for all the games, not just Gillingham.
“There are a lot of good players at this Football Club now and there will be some good players on that bench that should be starting.
“We’ve not got a massive squad but we’ve got some tremendous strength in it. We just need to keep them fit, keep them happy and playing the way we want them to play.”
