Grigg overjoyed with debut goal

11 August 2014

Striker Will Grigg says he was ecstatic after scoring a debut goal in MK Dons’ opening day victory over Gillingham.

Karl Robinson’s side fought back from two goals down to beat the Kent outfit last Saturday thanks a fine Grigg header as well as goals from fellow debutant Kyle McFadzean and a pair of own goals.

“I’m ecstatic at the moment,” Grigg told MK Dons Player. “It’s always nice to get that first win and that first goal for me, personally. You obviously want to get that first goal as soon as possible so to be one in one is a nice feeling.

“I was trying to drift offside because the two centre-backs didn’t know where I was. It was a great ball in from Danny and I’ve just guided it into the far stick. It’s the best header I’ve scored so I’m chuffed."

He continued: “We wanted to make sure we got that first win today and that’s what we did. We showed great character to come out in the second half and play some really good stuff, dominate the game.

“I know it’s only the first game of the season but we’ve got to take a lot of positives and that character we showed was brilliant. We’ll take all that into the game on Tuesday.”

Although there was little doubt about Grigg’s header, the man on loan from Brentford insists he got the final touch from Danny Green’s corner to score the Dons’ fourth and final goal.

“The fourth goal’s hit me on the back of the leg and gone in so I’m definitely going to try and claim that!

“Greeny’s brilliant. He’s got that quality that you need in a side and soon as he gets the ball you know what he’s going to do with it. He’s a great assist to our side.”
