Afobe aiming to be more clinical

21 August 2014

Benik Afobe has sets his sights on being more ruthless in front of goal despite scoring his second goal of the season in the 1-0 win over Chesterfield.

Afobe’s superb solo effort was the difference at the Proact Stadium on Tuesday, but the on-loan Arsenal striker admitted he should have scored a hat-trick.

“I’m very disappointed not to come away with the match ball,” he said.

“The boys have set me up pretty well and I’ve got myself into some fantastic positions, but if we had played that game in a month or so I think I would have got a hat-trick.

“There’s still a bit of that pre-season feeling with some of the finishing but in a couple of months’ time I definitely would have scored a hat-trick in this game.”

He added: “I’m delighted with the win and as a striker you always want to score goals.

“When I picked the ball up I looked square to pass it but I heard the manager say to run with it, so I thought ‘Why not?’ It was 0-0 and I’ve got them on the ropes so I turned one, turned the other and I hit it quite well so I’m happy with that.”

Benik is 5/1 with Sky Bet to bag the opening goal in Saturday’s clash with Coventry City at stadiummk – fancy that? Click here to bet/more odds.
