Preview: Rotherham United

25 April 2014

MK Dons make their final away trip of the season on Saturday when they take on Rotherham United at New York Stadium.

Karl Robinson’s side have won six of their last eight away matches and will be looking to add one final victory to that total before the close of the campaign. One player desperate for three points is captain Dean Lewington, who will make his 500th Dons appearance on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Rotherham will have their eyes set on securing third-place in Sky Bet League 1 ahead of the 2013/14 play-offs next month. The Millers, however, have won just one of their last four games, losing twice and drawing the other.

Karl Robinson – speaking to MK Dons Player
“We’ve been very lucky the way the fixtures have fallen, getting to play against three very good teams (in our final three games). It gives our kids a chance to gain some vital experience against these big teams.

“We’ve still got to put our kit on twice more and that badge of ours has still got to mean just as much now as it did in the first game of the season.”

Michael O’Connor, Rotherham United midfielder – Millers Matchday
“We have some vital games to play now before the play-offs and we know the importance of staying sharp and making sure we are ready for what is sure to be a very tough semi-final,” he confirmed.

“We will be trying to take a good run of form into those games but more importantly we all need to be fit and sharp because there won’t be much margin for error in those games.”

Team news
MK Dons will monitor George Baldock and Izale McLeod ahead of Saturday’s kick-off.

Both players emerged as doubts on Thursday but did travel with the squad to New York Stadium. Defender Tom Flanagan, recalled from his loan at Stevenage on Friday afternoon, has also made the trip to South Yorkshire.

Rotherham will be without loanee Richie Smallwood, who serves a three-match suspension following his dismissal on Easter Monday, and Mark Bradley, who is ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Midfielder Lee Frecklington, however, may return.
