Karl: Let's build on good start

25 September 2013

Manager Karl Robinson wants his side to build on their ‘good’ start to the new Sky Bet League 1 season.

The Dons currently occupy eighth place in the table having picked up 13 points from their opening eight fixtures. Robinson’s side have only suffered one defeat this season – a 2-1 loss to Peterborough last weekend in a result which put an end to the team’s seven-match unbeaten run.

While the Dons will be pleased with their strong start, the only negative stat has been the lack of victories, having won just three games compared to the four they’ve drawn.

Shrewsbury Town, Preston North End, Bristol City and Swindon Town have all taken a point off the Dons this season, but on each occasion the men from MK1 have had enough chances to warrant all three.

Therefore Robinson is looking for his players to be more clinical in the next few weeks, starting with this weekend’s match with Stevenage at stadiummk. Speaking to the media earlier this week, the 33-year-old said: “While we’re in a good position at the moment, it’ll only be a good position if we move forward over the next few games. It’ll be a useless position if we don’t go and win the games coming up.

“In football you’ve got to win every game you play and so we’ve got to start winning more football matches. We’ve given ourselves a platform with our good, but not outstanding, start, so now it’s time to kick-on.

“Stevenage will come here on Saturday with a different set of tactics to that of Peterborough and although it’s difficult to play against any side in this League, it’s especially so against Stevenage and we’ll need to be on our ‘A-Game’. They’ve got some very good players and when I went to watch them play Everton they were the better team for large parts.

“However, we’ve piled enough reports to go and compete with them and to exploit their weaknesses. They have got strengths too so we’ve got to make sure we nullify them."

Tickets for the Stevenage match will be on sale right up until kick-off on Saturday 28th September from the MK Dons Box Office at stadiummk and the kiosk at thecentre:mk.
