Collinge called-up by England

17 September 2013

MK Dons' young defender Danny Collinge has been named in the England Under-16 squad ahead of their 2013 Victory Shield opener against Wales.

Kenny Swain named his first squad of new campaign earlier this week as the Young Lions look to retain the Shield for a 13th successive season. Swain has selected an 18-man squad for the match, which will take place at Kidderminster Harriers’ Aggborough Stadium on Friday 4th October.

The Victory Shield, a tournament which is broadcast live on Sky Sports throughout the Autumn, remains an important competition for England and Head Coach Swain, who has handed debuts to the likes of Danny Welbeck, Daniel Sturridge and Ross Barkley.

Dons youngster Collinge, 15, will be hoping he is the next to be handed an international debut by Swain, when links up with his England team-mates next month. If Collinge does play, he will become the eighth Dons academy player to represent their country within the last year.

Tickets for the game are on sale now. Supporters wishing to attend can do so by calling 01562 823931 or emailing info@harriers.co.uk.

The full 18-man squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Connor King (Burnley), Ryan Sandford (Millwall).

Defenders: Danny Collinge (MK Dons), Benjamin Cull (Southampton), Ro-Shaun Oman Williams (Manchester United), Reece Oxford (West Ham United), Ben Sheaf (West Ham United), Charlie Wakefield (Chelsea), James Yates (Everton).

Midfielders: Liam Bell (Newcastle United), Tom Davies (Everton), Jacob Maddox (Chelsea), William Patching (Manchester City), Christopher Willock (Arsenal).

Forwards: Rishian Hepburn-Murphy (Aston Villa), Kaylen Hinds (Arsenal), Layton Ndukwu (Leicester City), Adam Phillips (Liverpool).
