Carruthers receives call-up

3 September 2013

Samir Carruthers has been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier versus Germany.

The Aston Villa loanee, who scored for his national team in last month’s qualifier against Faroe Islands, will link up with his Irish teammates on Saturday 7th September ahead of the Germany match which takes place two days later on Monday 9th September in Sligo.

Carruthers will subsequently miss the Dons’ League 1 clash with Swindon Town this Saturday but will return in time for the trip to Notts County next week.

Also, Under-16 starlet Kevin Danso has been selected by Austria Under-16s for their two friendlies with Poland on Monday 9th September.

Carruthers and Danso become the second and third Dons players to be called up for international duty in the last week, following on from Lee Hodson’s call-up to the Northern Ireland senior side.
