Southgate: Excited for stadiummk visit

30 October 2013

England Under-21s manager Gareth Southgate is looking forward to bringing his side to stadiummk next month, for their UEFA European U21 Championship qualifier against Finland.

On Thursday 14th November, the Young Lions will take on their Group 1 opponents in what will be the third England Under-21s match held at the home of MK Dons and over 10,000 tickets have already been sold for the game.

Southgate’s men sit two points above Finland in first place and a win here in Milton Keynes will give the team’s qualifying hopes a huge boost.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Southgate said: “We’ve got to keep winning matches because we want to reach the Euro Finals in 2015 and get that experience of playing in a tournament against some of the strongest teams in Europe.

“I’m really looking forward to playing in Milton Keynes because from top to bottom, it’s a club that I have a lot of respect for. I’ve met the owner, Pete Winkelman, a few times over the years as he’s spoken on some of our national courses and has been very helpful to The FA in that regard.

“He’s got a philosophy for the club which filters down through the first team, who play some really attractive football, and they’ve blooded some great youngsters through their academy which is run by Mike Dove and Dan Micciche, who has now joined us at The FA.

“They’ve really set a great example for clubs at that level and I know they still have ambitious plans. It’s a fantastic stadium here and they will want to build upon the success that they’ve had so far.”
