Ref Watch: Tranmere Rovers

24 October 2013

Staffordshire-based Steven Rushton will take charge of MK Dons’ visit to Tranmere Rovers this weekend.

Although Rushton has only been refereeing in the Football League since 2009, he has taken charge of five games involving the Dons and in those fixtures he has shown a total of 11 yellow cards and only the solitary red card.

The most recent of them appointments came at the beginning of last season, when Karl Robinson’s side beat Cheltenham Town in the Capital One Cup. Rushton sent off Dons midfielder Stephen Gleeson early on in that game while also booking four players including trio Darren Potter, Dean Bowditch and Antony Kay.

So far this season, Rushton has marshalled six games, booked 15 players and sent off two. Both the red cards came in the same Sky Bet League 1 clash between Crawley Town and Gillingham, with Gary Alexander and Charlie Lee both being dismissed for two bookable offences.

Rushton’s last appointment was a lot quieter than the game at Broadfield Stadium, as he was only forced to produce two yellow cards in Rochdale’s 3-0 win over Newport County.

The full list of officials for Saturday is as follows:
Referee: Steven Rushton (Staffordshire)
Assistant Referees: Marvyn Amphlett (Worcestershire) and Daniel Meeson (Staffordshire)
Fourth Official: Richard Bartlett (Cheshire)
