Dons to return to Dublin

Milton Keynes Dons will be returning to the Republic of Ireland for pre-season in the summer.

in late June to undergo a number of fitness tests before they head out to Dublin, for a third consecutive year, to kick start their pre-season schedule.mkstadiumThe Dons team will re-gather at

The team will embark on a seven-day training camp in Dublin where they will be put through their paces by fitness coach Damien Doyle. Each day will include three-sessions designed to improve their fitness with work on the beach, football-based sessions on the pitch and further strength and conditioning work in the gym.

Following the training camp, which will focus on fitness, the Dons will play three pre-season matches across three days from Monday 8th July through to Wednesday 10th July.

Speaking to mkdons.com boss Karl Robinson said: “The thing with pre-seasons is it’s not so much a comfort blanket, but for a manager your fear is the standard of pitches, the hotel, the food, the weather and the standard of competition you might face but we know where we are at when we go to Dublin.

“We’re very comfortable in the surroundings, we’ve identified a great hotel and the training facilities are fantastic. We’ll train again on the beach, the training ground we use is excellent and the gym is one of the best we will use all season.

“Millwall, Ipswich and Wolves have all been there and if it’s good enough for Real Madrid a few seasons ago it is certainly good enough for us.

“It’s a time when the players will be very fatigued so they need to be sleeping and recovering as much as they can so this way they don’t have to drive into work and home, they don’t have to run around after their kids, they can just concentrate on training and getting fit.

“It trains the brain, it trains the heart and they become trained into the mentality that we want so they return to Milton Keynes fitter and more focused. It is important that they are fit for the season ahead but equally that they are mentally prepared for the fight of the forthcoming season.”

Once the trio of games in Dublin have been agreed and confirmed, the details will be released on mkdons.com
