Dave: Easy decision

Goalkeeper David Martin admits the decision to extend his stay with MK Dons was an ‘easy’ one.

until June 2015.mkstadiumMartin, 27, put pen to paper on a new two-year contract on Thursday afternoon in a deal that will see him remain with at

The Romford-born goalkeeper, who began his professional career with Wimbledon, re-joined the Dons as Karl Robinson’s first signing as manager in summer 2010 and has since gone on to feature over 150 times for the Club.

And Martin, son of former West Ham and England defender Alvin, told MK Dons Player that it didn’t take too much persuasion to sign on the dotted line and secure his future at MK1.

He said: “It was an easy decision (to sign the contract). I could have looked around to see what was there but in heart-of-hearts I always wanted to play my football year next season.

“I love it here. I love living here. It’s an hour away from where I’m originally from in Essex so it’s a great place to live and also a great place to play your football. In front of these fans, in this stadium, you can’t ask for much more.

“From when I moved up here originally at the Hockey Stadium, the Club’s come on leaps and bounds and even in the last few years you can see behind-the-scenes that the Club is building a foundation and a platform from which we can build from.”

Martin, who missed just one League game for the Dons coming into this season, started the year in fine form before back complaint picked up away at Carlisle United eventually ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.

But with the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee hoping to return for pre-season fully fit, he now has his mind set on retaining the number 1 jersey next year.

“I was a bit disappointed to miss the last ten games of this season but that happens in football. I’ve got to use that hunger now to come back for pre-season and I can’t wait to start. It just wasn’t meant to be last year. Obviously injuring my back and then coming back but then injuring my rib, it was just one of them things.

"I’m fit now and I can’t wait for pre-season. I’ve started already as I feel like I’ve already had my break having missed two months at the end of the season. I’m ready to go now.

“It was disappointing for me to miss those games last year but it’s made me even hungrier to get back and be the number 1 goalie again so it will be interesting next season.”
