Independent Schools Final at stadiummk

20 March 2013

Tonight (Thursday) stadiummk will be the setting for the historic Boodles Independent Schools FA Cup Final.

Millfield School will take on Alleyn’s School on Thursday 21st March at 7pm. The game is 40 minutes each way, with the potential for extra time and penalties.

The Boodles ISFA Cup is the national cup competition for independent schools at Under-18 level.  Amongst the 63 participants are some of the most famous schools in the country – Eton College, Winchester College, Charterhouse, Westminster and Manchester Grammar School.  The tournament first took place in 1992-93 and previous venues for Cup Finals include Leicester City and Fulham.

stadiummk has been the home of the Final since 2010.

Amongst the notable players to have played in the tournament during their schooldays are full internationals Frank Lampard, Quinton Fortune and James Beattie and, more recently, up and coming Derby County star Will Hughes and their goalkeeper Frank Fielding.

This season’s Final is between two-times winners Millfield School, from Somerset, and Alleyn’s School, from Dulwich in London, who have never lifted the trophy.  Millfield are a famous sporting school, producing a number of members of the 2012 GB Olympic Team.

They consistently reach the later stages of the Boodles ISFA Cup and were runners-up last season, when they lost 2-1 to Hampton School at stadiummk. Alleyn’s are appearing in the Final for the first time and will start as the underdogs.

Both schools are expecting several hundred supporters to travel to follow them to the Final.  The Guest of Honour will be World Cup Final referee Howard Webb and the match referee will be another FIFA and Premier League referee, Martin Atkinson.

The tournament is organised by The Independent Schools Football Association whose Chairman is David Elleray, England’s top referee during the late 1990s, now a member of the UEFA Referees’ Committee.

Admission is free for MK Dons season ticket holders on production of their season ticket card. Tickets are also on sale for £5 on the night. Entry is via Gate 6.
