Ian McLoughlin has been named in the League 1 Team of the Week, after keeping his second consecutive clean-sheet against Sheffield United on Saturday.
The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international made only his eighth appearance for the Club on the weekend but played a crucial role in preserving the Dons’ unbeaten run with a number of important stops and catches.
McLoughlin’s most notable save came mid-way through the second half, when he stood up well to get a hand to Jonathan Forte’s un-opposed shot, after the Blades striker had been played through one-on-one.
The young Irish stopper has had to wait for his chance to shine between the sticks for the Dons, mainly due to the impressive performances of team-mate David Martin.
However, after enjoying a short spell on loan at Walsall, McLoughlin was called upon to replace an injured Martin just before half-time in last month’s clash with Carlisle United and the 21-year-old has not disappointed, conceding only three goals in five games as well as keeping clean-sheets against first and second-placed Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United respectively.
The full League 1 Team of the Week is as follows:
Ian McLoughlin (MK Dons); Yassin Moutaouakil (Portsmouth), Mathieu Baudry (Leyton Orient), Sean O’Hanlon (Carlisle United), David Buchanan (Preston North End); Lee Holmes (Preston North End), Luke Murphy (Crewe Alexandra), Alan McCormack (Swindon Town), James Husband (Doncaster Rovers); Leon Clarke (Coventry City), David Connolly (Portsmouth).(4-4-2):
