Opportunity to join Ladies team

28 June 2013

MK Dons Ladies have plans to strengthen the presence of women’s football in Milton Keynes and will start by recruiting new players for the 2013/14 season.

The Ladies, now in their fifth season, will once again compete in the South East Combination League after missing out on their bid to be part of the Women’s Super League.

The spirit amongst the Ladies’ players and coaching staff, though, remains high as they once again aim to push for promotion into the Premier League.

During the closed season the Dons have strengthened their Ladies squad once again with a number of last season’s Under 17s Centre of Excellence players graduating through to open-age women’s football with the club.

MK Dons Ladies’ Centre of Excellence, which is one of only 32 FA Licensed Centres, is an excellent pathway to girls looking to find their way into the game.

The Ladies are continuing to strive to decrease the gap between themselves and the ‘top flight’ teams with the introduction of a new set-up, which they hope will encourage a new wave of players to the game.

Women’s and Girl’s Development Manager, Charlene Ward said: “Rather than look at missing out on the Women’s Super League as a negative, we have seen it as a challenge. We want to be in a position to apply again in the future, and for it to be very difficult not to be considered. This season we will again look to develop what we do as a Ladies team and raise the standards across the board.

“The Ladies team now only asks its players to pay a small fee to be a member of the club and has decided not to charge its players to play. While we are not yet in a position to pay our players, we hope this change will make a difference in attracting the right kind of players, who will continue to raise our game. Hopefully it will also be a reward for our current players who have worked so hard in previous seasons.”

If you are a female footballer (aged 16+), with previous Womens Super League, Premier League or Combination League experience and are looking to be part of an exciting and ambitious female set-up, MK Dons Ladies are holding a number of open sessions starting on Wednesday 3rd July.
