Karl on season opener

19 June 2013

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson insists his players must be prepared for their League 1 opener away at Shrewsbury Town

This morning’s fixture release saw the Dons pitted against Graham Turner’s Shrews on Saturday 3rd August, in only the Dons’ second away game on opening day.

Robinson’s side then meet the likes of Crewe Alexandra, Preston North End, Bristol City and Sheffield United in what is set to be an exciting opening month and the 33-year-old manager is looking forward to seeing what his side are made of early on in 2013/14.

Speaking to mkdons.com, the Dons boss said: “No matter who you face on opening day, it will always be a big game and the trip to Shrewsbury Town will be no different.

“Teams prepare for six to seven weeks for opening weekend, so they get more preparation for that game than any other, so it’s going to be difficult.

“Then, Crewe Alexandra come here to stadiummk and their young side will no doubt be full of energy that day and they’ll also be tough opposition.

“After that we’ll come up against the likes of Preston North End, Sheffield United and Bristol City, which just shows how strong this League is. It also gives our fans an opportunity to see what we’re made of and it’ll set us up for the rest of the season.”

Another month of particular note is March, a month where the Dons will host Sheffield United, Peterborough United, Gillingham and Wolves at stadiummk while also having to travel to Swindon Town, Notts County and Stevenage.

Robinson, though, isn’t too focused on that just yet.

“Of course, that month looks very exciting with some big, big games but we’ve got a long way to go before then” he added. “As was the case last year, the fixture list will look one way today but later on in the season it will look completely different.”
