Chadwick - the perfect 10

2 July 2013

Luke Chadwick is the perfect number 10 according to Karl Robinson and as a result the midfielder has had a change of squad numbers this summer.

The former Manchester United star is Robinson’s first choice when it comes to choosing a player to sit behind the lone-striker and provide a touch of flare in midfield. Knowing that Chadwick is his ideal player for the ‘number 10’ role, Robinson suggested the 32-year-old swapped his famous 26 Dons kit for the 10 shirt and Chadwick duly accepted.

Robinson said: “It was my choice; I felt that he is the best number 10 at this level. He’s everyone’s favourite and he has an incredible work-ethic. When I told him he said it might help him score more goals.

“I think he will look great in the number 10 shirt. It is a special number and I think he is a special player who deserves that right to wear it. I’m sure he’ll embrace it in the way he embraces everything.”

The other big change sees Tom Flanagan trade in his number 15 for the number 4, the traditional number of a centre-back. The defender spent time on loan with Gillingham and Barnet last season, but also made an appearance on the Dons’ bench although did not manage to register an appearance for the men from MK1.

Elsewhere, Dele Alli, who signed a professional contract in the summer, moves from 21 to 14 while Academy midfielder Brendan Galloway has once again been given a first team squad number and switches from 22 to 19.

Robinson added: “All three a young players but I think it shows they will be a big part of our squad with the numbers that they have been given. “

Patrick Bamford will don the number 15 shirt while the remainder of the squad will stick with the same numbers from last year.
