Lee Collins has been appointed referee of tonight’s FA Cup third round replay between MK Dons and Sheffield Wednesday.
Collins is into his second year of officiating in English football and will oversee only his third Dons game this evening. The Surrey-based whistle-blower took charge of Karl Robinson’s men earlier this season, booking both Luke Chadwick and Zeli Ismail in the 3-2 defeat to Brentford at Griffin Park.
Collins’ first visit to MK1 was in September 2011, when he refereed another Dons meeting with the West London-based Bees, this time a 4-3 penalty shoot-out defeat in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Irishman Shaun Williams saw red in that match after denying Brentford winger Myles Weston a clear goal-scoring opportunity while Dons loanee Adam Smith was booked.
In the 15 games he has officiated this year, Collins has issued 47 yellow cards as well has showing five red cards. Collins’ last appointment came on Saturday 29th December, when he was the man in the middle for Oxford United’s 3-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon. Collins booked five players during the League 2 clash as well as sending off U’s forward James Constable for an alleged elbow.
This will be the third FA Cup fixture that Collins has taken charge of, having shown 11 yellows and two red cards in his previous two matches.
