Ian McLoughlin helped Walsall to a 3-1 win over Preston North End on Sunday afternoon, having only been with his new team-mates for 48 hours.
McLoughlin, who finalised a one-month loan switch to Saddlers on Sunday morning, was thrust straight into the starting XI for the League 1 clash and made a number of important saves as the West Midlands club recorded their fifth victory in six games.
Dean Smith’s side started the game strong and broke the deadlock in the 18th minute thanks to a Febian Brandy strike, following some neat play by Will Grigg.
McLoughlin was called into action soon after, reacting well to push a Lee Holmes drive around the post, before the Saddlers doubled their lead courtesy of Paul Downing, who pounced on an Adam Chambers long-ball to glance a header into the far post.
Walsall made it 3-0 ten minutes into the second half when Grigg set up James Baxendale, although their advantage could have been reduced moments later if not for a fantastic save by McLoughlin, who was once again able to deny Holmes, this time from a free-kick on the edge of the area.
The Dons’ 21-year-old stopper wasn’t able to mark his debut with a clean-sheet though, after he was beaten in stoppage time by Lilywhites defender Bailey Wright.
McLoughlin and Walsall now focus their attention to this Saturday, when they host promotion-chasing AFC Bournemouth at the Bescot Stadium.
