Milton Keynes Dons Ladies climbed to sixth place in the South East Combination League following a five-star performance at home to Brentwood Ladies.
In difficult conditions, the Dons Ladies played host to their Brentwood counterparts at Willen Road on Sunday. The Dons, missing several key players, stuttered out of the starting blocks as their high-tempo passing game appeared to dessert them. However, Brentwood struggled to test Witney in the home goal.
Midway through the opening half though, the Dons found their rhythm and the impressive Charly Wright fired the hosts into the lead with a driving shot from midfield.
The fully fit Lil Stanton was back in midfield pulling the strings in the game and she soon had the impact the team desired as she netted twice – including a superb strike from 20-yeards – to give the Dons a three-goal cushion at half-time.
Brentwood never really looked like recovering from the three goal deficit, despite the best efforts of their captain Carla Rose, who tried to drive the team forward.
The second half was all Dons as their marched on to a five goal scoreline with skipper Hannah Barrett scoring with an impressive solo run through the Brentwood team from her makeshift role as centre back to make it 4-0, and Nikki Tarrant finishing of a fine team goal from the midfield as MK Dons made it one defeat in seven games in all competitions.
