MK Dons Ladies made it four wins on the bounce with a 3-1 victory over Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.
John Dyer’s side travelled to take on second placed Ipswich full of confidence after their recent form having scored 13 goals while conceding only once in their last three outings.
The Dons started brightly and dominated early on which was mainly due to the midfield quartet of Charley Wright, Lil Stanton, Heather McDonnell (pictured) and Hannah Barrett.
It wasn’t long before the visitors did open the scoring, this time from the penalty spot, after Wright was upended in the area following a strong, penetrating run – McDonnell making no mistake from 12-yards to give the Dons a deserved half-time lead.
Aware that Town would come out a lot stronger in the second period, Dyer’s Ladies went in search of an early second goal and they found it courtesy of Leah Cudone’s cool finish just after the re-start.
The home team did reduce the deficit soon after following a rare defensive error from the Dons back four but the two-goal advantage was restored when Mann slotted home after being sent through by Kaye Henton.
New signing Donna Norman made her debut for the Dyer’s team mid-way through the second 45 minutes and almost helped them increase their lead further but both the crossbar and the opposition ‘keeper denied Barrett and Nikki Tarrent respectively.
The victory, however, was overshadowed by a potential serious injury to McDonnell late on as the Dons climbed into 6th in the South East Combination League table.
